| THE TALL SHIPS’ RACES 2005
DVD: MWMDVD69 VHS: MWMV69 |
Tall Ships on the Tyne
Welcome aboard the biggest gathering of Tall Ships the country has ever seen for a magnificent festival of sail, music and celebration in the company of Jill Halfpenny and Craig Conway, joined by the comic talents of Brendan Healy, Billy Mitchell and Mike Elliott. This lyrical souvenir features over 100 Tall Ships from more than 30 countries as they visited the Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside for four memorable days in July 2005. More than 1.5 million people came to see this great spectacle and now you can relive the magic of the event including that awesome firework display when the Tyne became a River of Fire, and watch again as the largest Parade of Sail in the history of the event makes its stately progress to the starting line. Experience the realities of life aboard as we join one of the crews on their voyage to join the festival and enjoy some wonderful music from the Northumbria Anthology, featuring songs by Graeme Danby, Judy Dinning, Sting and Jimmy Nail. The programme is narrated by Eric Robson. |

| TALL SHIPS RIVERS & SEA
DVD: MWMDVD68 VHS: MWMV68 |
Tall Ships, Rivers And Sea A celebration of the maritime heritage of the North East of England. 1986. 1993. 2005. Each of these years is marked by a visit to the River Tyne of the Tall Ships. And to celebrate the event, the Northumbria Anthology has put together this video, directed by Ken McKenzie. It's a collection of thoughts and reminiscences of five North East writers, who specialise in the history of our region, our shipbuilders and our seafarers: Max Adams, Tony Barrow, Dick Keys, Adrian Osler and Ken Smith. Find out why the Wear and the Tyne became such important shipbuilding centres, which Geordie admiral was the real hero of Trafalgar, how bad conditions were in the Royal Navy in the 18th Century and what it was like to live in fear of the press gang? From the early days of wooden sailing vessels to triumphs of steam technology like the Mauretania, this video gives a fascinating glimpse at ships and the people who worked with them. |
